EQWA PROGRAM

Internship Quarter

Open to students completing one or more previous quarters of study with CIMAS.
CIMAS places students with nonprofit agencies or community organizations involved with environment, health or development. Students create a detailed plan to explore environmental, development, social or health issues under the direction of on-site academic staff. Internships may include hands-on work involving community development, assessing, managing and controlling natural resources, health services, sustainable development, education of children, support services to people in need, and the like. Ideally, students will work collaboratively with Ecuadorians. This enables students to view their internship work from a different cultural perspective and to further develop language competency. Students work in rural or urban areas in locations not more than a 2-1/2 hour drive from Quito. Internship placements vary from year to year and depend on the needs of the community.
